Choose the villa around the ages

The same villa can be perfect at eight and wrong at eighteen months. Start with who is actually coming, then let the shortlist follow.

The details do the work: a cot and high chair confirmed rather than assumed, shade over the terrace, gates or barriers where the pool meets the garden, and a short drive to a supermarket. Check the exact beach entry at the nearest beach, and weigh the transfer after a flight with a small child.

What to check before choosing a family villa

A family label cannot tell you whether a particular villa works for your children. The useful questions are specific.

  • Does the pool have a gate, barrier or alarm, and how does the garden meet it?
  • Are cots and high chairs available, and are they included or charged?
  • How do the bedrooms sit: together, split by floor, or across buildings?
  • Is there shade over the terrace and lawn through the middle of the day?
  • How far are the supermarket, the pharmacy and the nearest sheltered beach?
  • What does the transfer look like, and does the villa need a car every day?

Do family villas have fenced pools?

Some do, many do not: a private pool does not prove a fence or gate. Where a barrier has been reviewed it appears on the villa page, and if pool safety is essential for your ages, ask us to confirm it before booking.

Are cots and high chairs provided?

It varies by villa: provided free, charged, or unavailable. Check the villa details for your dates and party, and tell us the ages at enquiry so the shortlist only contains villas that genuinely work.

Which Greek island is best for a family holiday?

It depends on the ages and the week you want. Crete and Rhodes carry big sheltered east-coast beach resorts and plenty to do; Corfu and Kefalonia trade scale for green scenery and calm Ionian water; Skiathos packs sixty beaches into a short-transfer island. Do we need a car on a family villa holiday?

Usually it helps, and on bigger islands it is close to essential: supermarkets, beaches and evening choices rarely all sit within a pram walk. Some resort-adjacent villas manage without one; the villa page’s location notes are the guide.

When should families travel to Greece or Cyprus?

School holidays own July and August, which are the hottest and busiest weeks; late May, June and September are gentler on temperatures, crowds and prices for families who can use them. Cyprus stretches the swimming season furthest.
