Corfu

Corfu feels completely different from most vacation spots and you notice it the moment you arrive. It’s greener, softer, and a little more laid-back than you might expect, with gorgeous olive groves rolling down towards quiet coves and the pastel buildings that line the coast. Staying in Corfu villas places you right in the middle of it all, where the mornings are slow, the air is fresh, and the day ahead never seems to need much planning.

There’s a calm, relaxed pace to the island that’s really easy to settle into. You might spend one day exploring the hidden beaches, and the next wandering through the historic streets or stopping for lunch in a hillside village. Many of the villas in Corfu are tucked into scenic spots with sweeping seaside views, and having your own space (especially a villa with a private pool or your own private jacuzzi) means you can enjoy it all in complete comfort. A private villa is a great choice for a relaxed family vacation, a large group trip, or even a romantic honeymoon escape, especially if you’re looking for a beachfront villa with plenty of room to unwind.

Corfu is also a great starting point for exploring the Ionian Islands. Kefalonia is around 3–4 hours away by ferry, Lefkada roughly 2–3 hours by car and bridge connection, and Zante about 4–5 hours by ferry and road. Each island has its own unique character, from dramatic cliffs to long sandy beaches and some of the most sought-after stays in all of Greece.

Explore all of Bnbstay’s handpicked villas and rest easy knowing your vacation is in good hands.

Zakynthos (Zante)

If you are looking for the perfect vacation spot that immediately captures your attention, this is it. It’s the colour of the water, which is bright and almost unreal, and the way the cliffs drop straight into it that makes the island feel much more striking than you might expect. Staying in Zakynthos villas gives you a front-row seat to all of it, whether you’re perched above a bay or are just a short walk from the sea.

But trust us when we tell you that there’s a lot more to the island than just its famous viewpoints. You’ll find quiet villages, long sandy beaches on the south coast, and a lively atmosphere around Zakynthos Town when you're craving something with a bit more energy. Many of the villas in Zakynthos are set up to make the most of those sweeping seaside views, and having your own space (especially one with a private pool) means you can enjoy it all without any interruptions. It’s a great spot for a family vacation, a trip with a large group, or a more relaxed stay for couples, and if you’re looking for a more upscale beach villa with a touch of luxury, Zakynthos has that too!

Once you’ve had a look around, the next step is choosing where you want to stay. Whether you prefer somewhere peaceful or closer to the livelier parts of the island, there’s a ton of great options to choose from.

Zakynthos also sits right alongside some of the Ionian’s best-known islands. Corfu, Lefkada and Kefalonia are all within reach by ferry or a short journey, and each one offers something slightly different, from lush green coastlines to wide sandy bays and some of the most sought-after stays in Greece.

Kefalonia

Kefalonia tends to catch people off guard, and in the best way possible. The colour of the water alone is enough to stop you in your tracks. It shifts between deep blue and bright turquoise depending on where you are. Staying in Kefalonia villas puts you right on the very edge of it all, whether you’re looking out over the steep cliffs or are tucked into a quiet bay with barely another soul around.

The island feels open and completely unspoilt in a way that’s getting a lot harder to find these days. You can easily move between the hidden beaches, mountain roads and small harbour towns without feeling rushed or too crowded in. Many of the villas in Kefalonia are set in elevated spots that make the most of those sweeping seaside views, and having your own space (especially one with a private pool or a jacuzzi) makes it easy to switch between exploring and simply staying put and spending your day lounging. These luxurious villas are perfect for a relaxed family vacation, a getaway with a large group, or even a destination wedding or honeymoon, especially if you’re looking for a beachfront villa with a bit of privacy.

From Kefalonia, it’s also really easy to connect with the rest of the Ionian Islands. Corfu, Lefkada and Zante are all within reach by ferry, making them great options if you’re thinking about exploring more than one island. Lefkada

Lefkada is the one Ionian island you can drive to from mainland Greece — a short causeway connects it — which gives it a slightly different character to its neighbours. More accessible, slightly less discovered, with a coastline that arguably has the best beaches in the Ionian and some of the most spectacular sailing waters in the Mediterranean.

Where to Stay Lefkada Town on the north coast is the base for most visitors — a pleasant working town with good restaurants and a lively evening atmosphere. Nidri on the east coast is the main resort, busier and more developed. The west coast villages — Agios Nikitas, Kathisma, Exantheia — are quieter and closer to the best beaches. Porto Katsiki and Egremni are on the south-west tip, requiring a drive down a dramatic cliff road.

Beaches Porto Katsiki is consistently rated among the best beaches in Europe — a small cove of white pebbles and deep turquoise water at the base of white limestone cliffs, accessible by steps or by boat. Egremni nearby was partially lost to a landslide but remains spectacular. Kathisma on the west coast is a long sandy beach with good facilities. Vasiliki in the south is one of the top windsurfing destinations in the Mediterranean.

Things to Do Sailing is the main activity — Lefkada is surrounded by small islands including Meganisi, Skorpios (once owned by Aristotle Onassis) and Sparti, all accessible by boat. The coastal path between Agios Nikitas and Milos beach is a beautiful one-hour walk. Visit the waterfall at Nydri, a short walk from the town.

Food & Drink Lefkada produces its own white wine and a local sausage called loukaniko. The fish tavernas along the east coast around Nidri are good and unpretentious. Agios Nikitas on the west coast has a cluster of restaurants with good fresh fish overlooking the sea.

When to Go June through September. The island is popular with sailing visitors in summer. July and August are the busiest months. The west coast beaches can be windy but the water is always clear.

Paros

Paros has found a comfortable middle ground that many Cycladic islands struggle to maintain — beautiful enough to attract visitors who care about aesthetics, relaxed enough that it hasn't been overwhelmed by them. It sits between the extremes of Mykonos (too loud) and some of the lesser-known islands (too quiet) and works well for almost any type of traveller.

Where to Stay Naoussa in the north is the most charming town on the island — a fishing harbour with good restaurants, a small Venetian castle, and a lively but not excessive nightlife scene. Parikia, the capital and port town, has a beautiful old quarter with a 6th-century church built from marble. The south of the island around Aliki is quieter, with good beaches and a more local feel.

Beaches Kolymbithres near Naoussa has unusual rounded granite rock formations and clear water — one of the most distinctive beaches in the Cyclades. Golden Beach on the east coast is a long sandy stretch popular with windsurfers. Santa Maria near Naoussa is good for families with shallow, calm water. Faragas in the south is small, sheltered and uncrowded.

Things to Do Visit the Panagia Ekatontapiliani — the Church of 100 Doors — in Parikia, one of the oldest and most significant Byzantine churches in Greece. Walk the Byzantine Road from Lefkes to Prodromos through marble-paved paths and mountain villages. Take a day trip to the small neighbouring island of Antiparos, with its famous stalactite cave and quiet beaches.

Food & Drink Naoussa has the best concentration of restaurants on the island, from excellent fresh fish at the harbour to creative mezedes on the backstreets. The local souma spirit, distilled from figs rather than grape pomace, is worth trying. Paros produces some of the best goat's cheese in the Cyclades.

When to Go June, July and September work well. Paros is windier than Santorini or Mykonos which makes it more bearable in August — and it's a major windsurfing destination for exactly that reason.

Explore Paros
Naxos

Naxos is the largest of the Cyclades and the most self-sufficient — it produces its own food, its own wine, its own cheese and its own spirits, and has been doing so for millennia. It doesn't need tourism the way smaller islands do, which gives it a more grounded, authentic character. The beaches on the west coast are some of the longest and sandiest in the Aegean. The interior is mountain villages, marble quarries and Byzantine churches.

Where to Stay Naxos Town (Chora) is a proper working town built around a Venetian castle on a hill — good restaurants, good nightlife by Cycladic standards, and a beautiful old quarter. The west coast beach villages — Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka — are strung along a 12km stretch of sand and are more resort-oriented but well-serviced. The mountain village of Halki in the interior is one of the most beautiful settlements in the Cyclades.

Beaches The west coast beaches are the best in the Cyclades for families — Agios Prokopios and Agia Anna are long, sandy and sheltered, with shallow blue-green water. Plaka further south is wilder and less developed. Mikri Vigla in the south is exposed to the meltemi wind and popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers.

Things to Do Drive the interior — the mountain road through Halki, Filoti and Apeiranthos passes through some of the most beautiful landscape in the Cyclades. Visit the Portara — the doorway of an unfinished 6th-century temple that stands on a small island connected to Naxos Town by a causeway. Take a food tour and try the local cheeses: graviera, arseniko and kefalotyri are all made here.

Food & Drink Naxos is considered the best island in Greece for food. The local graviera cheese is among the finest in the country. Naxian potatoes — a protected designation of origin — are genuinely distinctive. The kitron liqueur, made from citron fruit, is a Naxos speciality. Restaurants in Naxos Town and Halki consistently outperform their Cycladic counterparts.

When to Go June through September. The meltemi wind hits Naxos harder than sheltered islands in July and August — good for windsurfers, though the wide sandy beaches handle the wind well enough for most visitors.

Explore Naxos
Skiathos

Skiathos is small, compact and easy — 12km long with 60 beaches, a single main town, and a summer atmosphere that is genuinely lively without tipping into excess. It's a practical choice as well as a beautiful one: direct flights from the UK, most beaches accessible by bus or water taxi along the south coast, and a nightlife scene in Skiathos Town that's one of the best in the Northern Aegean.

Where to Stay Skiathos Town is the only settlement of any size and it's the obvious base — good restaurants, bars, shops, and ferry connections to the rest of the island and to neighbouring Skopelos. Villas on the hillsides above the town or along the south coast have the best views. The north coast is quieter and wilder but less accessible.

Beaches Koukounaries at the western end of the south coast is the most famous beach — a long crescent of fine sand behind a lagoon, consistently rated among the best in Greece. Banana Beach nearby is lively with beach bars and watersports. Lalaria on the north coast is only accessible by boat — white pebbles and a natural rock arch, with extraordinary clear water.

Things to Do Take the water taxi along the south coast beach-hopping — it's the best way to see the island. Visit Kastro, the old fortified capital in the north, abandoned in the 18th century and now a ruin above the sea. Take a day trip by ferry to Skopelos and Alonissos — both beautiful and very different in character to Skiathos.

Food & Drink Skiathos Town has a solid range of restaurants for its size — good fresh fish on the harbour and several places on the backstreets doing proper Greek cooking. The local almond biscuits (amygdalota) are the island's most distinctive food product. July and August evenings on the main strip are lively and fun.

When to Go June through September. Skiathos is one of the busiest islands relative to its size in peak season. Late June and September are significantly more pleasant and the water is still warm.

Patmos

Patmos is a really interesting place to visit. It’s quiet and doesn’t really try to impress you right away, but it has a depth to it that starts to reveal itself to you the more you explore. It’s known as the island where Saint John is said to have written the Book of Revelation, and it carries a sense of history that seems to be woven into its hills, its monasteries and its beautiful winding streets. Staying in Patmos villas gives you a chance to experience it from a more personal perspective, with enough space to be able to take it all in at your own pace.

Andros

Andros is the northernmost Cycladic island and one of the least visited despite being one of the most rewarding. It has a different character to its southern neighbours — greener, cooler, wetter in winter, with rushing streams and waterfalls in the interior that feel completely un-Cycladic. The island has a long tradition of shipping wealth which built the handsome neoclassical mansions of Andros Town and funded the excellent contemporary art museum that sits unexpectedly in the main square.

Where to Stay Andros Town (Chora) on the east coast is the most beautiful capital in the Cyclades — a narrow peninsula with the sea on both sides, Venetian tower houses, a medieval castle ruins at the end, and a relaxed sophistication that comes from being primarily an island for Greeks rather than foreign tourists. Batsi on the west coast is the main resort, more relaxed and family-oriented. Gavrio is the ferry port, practical rather than pretty.

Beaches Agios Petros near Batsi is a long sandy beach with good facilities and shallow water. Achla on the north-east coast is one of the most beautiful and remote beaches in the Cyclades — accessible only on foot or by boat, with a river running into the sea behind it. Apothikes near Andros Town is a sandy bay with clear water and a good taverna.

Things to Do Walk the ancient stone-paved path network that connects the island's villages — Andros has the best preserved network of kalderimi (cobbled paths) in the Cyclades. Visit the Museum of Contemporary Art in Andros Town, which hosts serious exhibitions of international artists. Drive the interior through the villages of Menites and Mesaria, where freshwater springs run year-round.

Food & Drink Andros produces its own froutalia — a distinctive omelette made with local sausage and potatoes, a legacy of the island's Venetian period. The local louza (cured pork) is excellent. Andros Town has several very good restaurants. The island produces honey, olive oil and a local spirit called souma.

When to Go May through September. Andros is cooler and greener than the southern Cyclades which makes it particularly good in June and early July when other islands are already very hot. The island is just two hours by ferry from Rafina, making it easily accessible as a first or last stop on an Athens itinerary.
