Why visit Skiathos?
Because it packs the whole holiday into fifty square kilometres and takes away the journey excuse. The beaches genuinely number in the dozens, from organised family sand to a boat-only pebble cove; the interior is pine forest with a monastery at its heart where, by tradition, the first Greek flag was woven and blessed in 1807; and the town does proper harbour evenings without needing a resort strip. The direct flights make it one of the easiest Greek islands to reach.
Honesty about the crowds: July and August fill the island, the bar street runs late, and Banana beach throws real parties. If August peace is the brief, the north coast and the shoulder months are where it lives.

Take the boat to Lalaria
The white-pebble cove under its rock arch is boat-only, weather permitting, from the old port; there are no facilities, which is the point. Round-the-island boats pair it with Kastro, the abandoned clifftop capital on the northern tip. One rule matters: taking pebbles home is prohibited.
Walk into the pines at Koukounaries
The beach everyone photographs backs onto a protected stone-pine forest and the Strofilia lagoon, a small Natura 2000 wetland. Swim, then walk the forest path behind the sand.
Visit Evangelistria Monastery
The 18th-century monastery above town holds a museum, working vineyards and the tradition that Greece's first flag was raised here in 1807. Taste the monks' Alypiakos red before you leave.
Follow Mamma Mia honestly

Is Skiathos a party island?
It has the liveliest nightlife in the Sporades, and it is honest about where it keeps it: one bar street on the eastern harbour front, the lanes off Papadiamantis Street, and Banana beach's afternoon-into-night parties.
