If exploring an old town is part of the holiday you are looking forward to, start with Corfu. If you have already pictured days on the beaches around Vasilikos, start with Zakynthos. Both islands can give you a beach-led week or evenings in town. The choice becomes clearer when you decide which part you want on your doorstep and which you are happy to travel for.
Try a simple test before choosing: picture an ordinary evening, after the outing is over. Do you want to wander before dinner, return to the same coastal base, or stay at the villa? A famous beach can influence your shortlist, but the return journey will be part of your holiday much more often.
As you compare, keep Bnbstay's Corfu collection and Zakynthos collection alongside the map. An island name does not tell you where an individual stay sits, what type of accommodation it is, or what you can reach on foot.
Compare the week, not the postcard
Town time is a main activity. Corfu: Corfu Old Town, with its historic streets and fortifications. Zakynthos: Zakynthos Town, rather than treating the hill setting of Bohali as the same base. Choose the actual address before assuming an easy walk home.
Most days revolve around a beach. Corfu: Glyfada as one sandy-beach example, separate from Corfu Town. Zakynthos: Vasilikos and its named beaches, rather than a single resort centre. Decide how you will reach other beaches and evening places.
You want both. Corfu: Pick the town or coast as your base and plan the other as an outing. Zakynthos: Make the same choice between town and a beach-led base. Compare a realistic return journey, not just the outward trip.

When town time tips the choice towards Corfu
Corfu makes a strong case if streets and buildings are something you want to explore, rather than a backdrop to dinner. The municipality's Old Town guide describes the surviving historic street network and the town's fortifications. That gives you a reason to spend time there beyond ticking off a viewpoint.
It also changes the planning question. Staying near the town activities you want and travelling out for a beach day is a different holiday from staying by the coast and driving in for an evening. Neither arrangement is automatically better. Choose the one that puts your more frequent activity closer.
Zakynthos Town is still worth considering if you want a town-based stay. Do not rule it out because the photographs that first caught your eye showed beaches. Equally, keep Bohali separate on your shortlist: the municipality describes its castle on a hill. A view over town and an address within town solve different problems, particularly on the way home.

When the beach is the centre of your week
Corfu does not need to lose this comparison simply because its town is a strength. Glyfada is one example of a sandy Corfu beach, described in Discover Greece's Corfu beach guide. If that is the kind of day you want repeatedly, compare a suitable coastal address with your town options rather than assuming every beach day should begin in Corfu Town.
On Zakynthos, Vasilikos gives the beach-led shortlist a specific starting point. The municipality names several beaches in the area, including Gerakas, Porto Roma and Agios Nikolaos. They should be treated as separate choices, not facilities attached to every accommodation address carrying the Vasilikos name.
The conservation context matters at Gerakas. ARCHELON's guidance for Laganas Bay identifies it among the protected nesting beaches. Follow the current local signs and ranger directions, keep away from nests and never choose a visit on the promise of seeing turtles. A protected beach is a place to respect, not a wildlife appointment.
For either island, shortlist the beach you would happily revisit. Then check the route from the actual accommodation and what your group will need during the day. Sand alone tells you nothing about that day's sea conditions, supervision, shade or the suitability of the access route.
Compare arrival and the journey home after dinner
There is no need to guess which island is easier to reach in the abstract. Compare the flights available for your own departure airport and dates, then work through the journey from arrival to your shortlisted address.
Both official airport sites describe bus services into their respective towns: Corfu airport transport and Zakynthos airport transport. That is a useful option to investigate, not proof that your flight connects neatly with a service or that the bus takes you to a villa. Check the operator's current information and the onward journey.
Apply the same care to dinner. If you want to leave the car behind, check the walking route to the places you expect to use, including gradients and the return after dark. If you plan to drive, agree who will do it. A more removed address may suit you perfectly when that is the plan; it is a poor fit when everyone expected a walkable evening.

Make the island choice, then choose the address
Put Corfu first if the Old Town itself is a substantial part of what you want to do. Put Zakynthos first if the specific beaches around Vasilikos are the reason for the trip. If both descriptions appeal equally, let the actual journey and accommodation shortlist settle it. There is little value in winning an island comparison and ending up with the wrong daily routine.
Once you have chosen, use the area guides rather than collecting another set of island rankings. If an address leaves an important question unanswered, ask a villa specialist about your shortlist. Explain what you want to do most days and which journeys you want to avoid. Those details are more useful than asking for the best island for everyone.
